A detailed work bio

‘So, what do you do?’

We’ve all heard the question.

But the one-liner never really does it justice.

I’ve been working in the corporate video world for 13 years now, and there’s so many fascinating stories that make up that ‘I work in video marketing!’ answer.

So, here’s an in-depth look at my work history (so far!)

2009 - 2012: Studying Film and Video

Holding the clapperboard for our grad film

Here’s where it all began.

I graduated with a Film and Video degree, specialising in Writing and Video Editing (trained by the editor of Band of Brothers and Doctor Who!).

My short films around this time were given Official Selection in eight film festivals across the UK and internationally, notably the Bath Film Festival, Newport Int’l Film Festival and Las Vegas Galaxy Film Festival.

2013: My first clients

Filming for 3VTV in the Welsh valleys

I spent early 2013 in an internship with 3VTV, a university-funded local community business attracting tourists to the little-known towns of the three valleys in Wales (Tredegar, Abertillery, Ebbw Vale).

Later that year, I found my feet as a Freelance Videographer, working with agencies, camera operating and video editing for Tesco, British Gas and Halo Post (post-production house for Luther, Motherland and Bad Education).

That led me to occasionally working on video edits with Stagestruck for Barclays and M&S, and I was asked to join the team full-time.

2013 - 2016: Video Editing for Events

Training session, teaching others how I work

In a full-time Video Editior and Animator role at Stagestruck, I edited event video content for M&S, PwC, Skoda and Barclays, where I also developed my motion graphics skills.

The work would take me from its Hertfordshire office, to the NEC and Wembley Stadium.

I remember vividly editing in Premier Inn’s new concept Hub room for a launch trailer, and the room was so intelligent, the lights would turn off automatically every 15 minutes because I hadn’t moved. Eek!

2016 - 2021: Videography for Startups

Live-streaming for a ‘SR Live’ event.

I left the editing suite as I moved into Cambridge’s Pitt Building with investment company SyndicateRoom.

As Videographer at SyndicateRoom, I jumped between camera, video editing, animation and live-streaming, promoting startups to investors.

I remember a key moment when we experienced a power cut mid livestream. I learned then to not panic. I kept everyone updated with what I was doing, and we were back up within two minutes and held onto our audience, hooray!

I would later encourage the marketing team to share more stories of the startups that successfully funded through the platform, not only to show the enthusiasm that drove each startup, but ultimately to increase the excitement of potential future investors.

I would also create explainer animations to simplify complicated tax incentives, and show how each new fund worked.

2020 - 2023: Content for Startups

Me (right) and the Cambridge team

Towards the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, I moved to Audiens as Content Lead, approached by two of my former marketing colleagues.

No longer a videographer, I was also practising graphic design skills, regularly making beautiful PDF guides as lead magnets.

With a heavy growth mindset, I was creating ads weekly, bringing together graphic design, video and animation. The perfect combination!

The role involved a huge amount of video content too, with my highlight being recording and editing a miniseries of Shopify store breakdowns with none other than Rory Sutherland.

2024 - Now: Content for You

Recording fresh video content

Working with both huge British businesses and the very latest startups, I’ve been lucky to see first-hand the difference video content can make to capturing an audience’s attention.

At SyndicateRoom, this was especially true - pitch deck videos were critical in attaining funding. At Stagestruck, video content inspired thousands of team leads across the country.

I found joy in pairing video content knowledge with a growth marketing mindset for small and medium-sized Cambridgeshire businesses.

As a Freelance Content Marketer, I bring my 13+ years of creative experience to your next round of videos, ad creatives or explainer animations.

I’ve already worked with over 20 businesses, with many returning for more! We’ve doubled customer retention, tripled leads and click rates with engaging content.
